Questions 1–8

City Library Membership and Services

The City Library is open to anyone who lives, works or studies in the local area. Joining is free, although applicants must provide proof of their current address. People under the age of 16 need a parent or guardian to sign their application form. Membership cards are usually issued immediately at the library desk.
Members may borrow up to ten books at one time. Most books can be kept for three weeks and may be renewed twice, provided that another member has not requested them. Books can be renewed online, by telephone or in person. DVDs, however, have a shorter borrowing period of seven days.
There is no charge for returning books after the due date. However, members cannot borrow additional items until overdue material has been returned. If an item is lost or seriously damaged, the member may be asked to pay the cost of replacing it.
Computers with internet access are available to members without charge. Each session is limited to one hour when other people are waiting. Printing is available for a small fee. Library staff can provide basic assistance with using the computers, but they cannot complete online forms or applications on behalf of visitors.
Two study rooms can be reserved by members for individual or group work. Reservations can be made up to one week in advance, and each booking is limited to two hours. Drinks in covered containers are permitted in these rooms, but food must be consumed in the café area.
The library also runs free activities throughout the year, including children's story sessions, basic computer workshops and talks by local speakers. Some events require advance registration because the number of places is limited.

Questions 9–16

Services at Brookside Railway Station

A. Left Luggage

Passengers who do not want to carry their bags around the city can leave them at the station's secure luggage facility. Items can be stored for a few hours or for several days. Charges depend on the size of the bag and the length of storage. Customers must show their receipt when collecting their belongings.

B. Bicycle Storage
A covered bicycle area is located beside Platform 1. It is free to use, but cyclists must provide their own lock. Bicycles left for more than seven consecutive days may be removed by station staff. A separate repair stand with basic tools is located nearby.

C. Passenger Assistance
Travellers who need additional support when boarding or leaving a train can request assistance from station staff. Whenever possible, passengers should arrange this at least 24 hours before travelling. However, staff will still try to assist passengers who arrive without a prior booking.

D. Quiet Waiting Room
Passengers looking for somewhere peaceful before their journey may use the quiet waiting room near Platform 4. Mobile phone calls and loud conversations are not permitted. The room is available to all ticket holders at no additional cost. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

E. Ticket Collection Machines
Passengers who purchase certain tickets online can collect them from the machines in the main entrance hall. They need the payment card used for the booking as well as the collection reference supplied in the confirmation email. The machines operate whenever the station is open.

F. Travel Information Office
Staff here can provide information about train times, connections and changes to services. They can also advise passengers on suitable routes when part of a journey has been cancelled. The office does not sell tickets, which must be purchased online, from a machine or at the ticket counter.
